Scientific journal Regional Economy. South of Russia has been published since June 2013. From 2002 to 2013, the journal was issued as a yearly periodical Economics of the Region's Development: Problems, Searches and Prospects.

Since 2016, the journal is the official information partner of the All-Russian forum of strategists.

The journal is included in the "List of Russian peer-reviewed scientific journals in which the main scientific results of dissertations for the academic degrees of a doctor and candidate of sciences should be published", recommended by the Higher Attestation Commission of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

Each article is assigned a DOI (Digital Object Identifier).

Scientific journal Regional Economy. South of Russia is intended for economists, historians, politicians, sociologists and practitioners, for teachers, postgraduate and undergraduate students, as well as for all those interested in the problems of territorial development.

The journal publishes materials that contain questions of the theory and practice of spatial economics, as well as practical recommendations for enhancing competitive advantages, increasing the stability and strengthening economic security of the territorial socio-economic systems of the Southern Federal District at different administrative levels.

The authorship of the journal is represented by researchers, postgraduates and PhD students, teachers, business leaders, representatives of regional authorities in the regions of the Southern Federal District, and other subjects of the Russian Federation.
