Abstract. The article examines the primary challenges of digital transformation encountered by the tourism ndustry and offers practical recommendations for boosting investment in the tourism infrastructure of various regions amidst the ongoing economic digital transformation. The purpose of the study is to identify the main problems of digital transformation affecting the tourism industry and to develop practical recommendations to address the identified problems. The data on the development of the tourism industry up to 2030 are presented. It is noted that the processes of digitalisation (digital technologies, big data) for the tourism industry provide hoteliers with a wide range of opportunities for the application and development of accommodation facilities. The latest digital technologies, which are the basis of the digitalisation process for tourism activities, are identified. A brief assessment of tourist portals in five regions is given. General scientific methods of synthesis, analysis, and systematisation are applied. It is evident that the tourism industry is facing significant challenges in the digital transformation process. These include the lack of regional tourist portals, a lack of data, the need for a hotel classification procedure, the complexity of permits, the challenge of collaboration with online booking sites, the cost of banking for hoteliers, and a lack of information on investment lots. The practical value of the study consists of the possibility of application of the developed recommendations by local and regional authorities at the stages of development and further implementation of strategies for the development of tourism in cities, municipal districts, and regional contexts. Additionally, the recommendations can inform the resolution of challenges faced by hoteliers, including for the purpose of additional investment attraction. The study separately notes the poor development of digital infrastructure in rural areas.
Key words: digital transformation of tourism economy, regional tourist portals, online booking platforms, regional tourism, investment in tourism infrastructure.
