Abstract. The social sphere of Volgograd region is characterized by the following indicators. The subsistence level is the smallest among the regions of the Southern Federal District. The expenditures of the budget of the Volgograd region for the social policy in the period under analysis were constantly increasing. The main recipients of payments in the region are labor veterans, low-income families, regional labor veterans and families with many children. A certain system of social guarantees was developed in the Volgograd region, and a whole package of measures exists to support citizens of various categories. The current social policy in Volgograd region is imperfect and is characterized by the following problems: low allowances for low-income families, lack of introduction of new payments to needy categories of citizens, and inaccessibility of support measures for certain categories of citizens. To solve the problems of low allowances for children from poor families, it is necessary to increase the number of allowances for children by making the difference between families, taking into account the deficit in the cash income of families. The absence of the introduction of new additional payments to certain categories of citizens is solved by their introduction by determining the categories of citizens most in need of them. The problem of accessibility of receiving social support measures can be solved by creating a mobile group, a separate structural unit based on the centers of social protection of the population operating in the region. The general recommendation is to develop further the region’s economy by stimulating the creation of new enterprises and supporting the existing ones.
Key words: region, socio-economic differentiation of the population, social protection, needy category of citizens, subsistence level, monthly allowance.
