Abstract. The study of infrastructural constraint of the economic growth of southern regions grows in connection with a high tear and wear of the existing infrastructure and also in connection with the necessity of the creation of new infrastructural objects capable of becoming a serious impulse for the development of the regions encompassed by this infrastructure. The implementation of infrastructural projects is destined to satisfy the needs of enterprises and population in transportation to encourage the increase of the gross domestic product (gross regional product in particular), to maintain the national defense of the country. The paper shows the current state of infrastructure in the Kerch Strait seaboard. It is shown that the bridge across the Strait is an essential project to stimulate the economic activity (interregional and international trade), capacity cargo and passenger flows. However, it is important to consider the fact that such large-scale projects, along with direct and indirect effects have influenced to spatial development. Large-scale transport projects are such a change of the transport system which affects fundamentally technical, social and economic indices of the transport system of regions such as gross regional product, cargo transportation. It is essential to overcome the infrastructural restrictions that prevent communications between the southern regions of Russia due to reunification of Crimea and Russian Federation. This problem requires large-scale investments into transport infrastructure, namely, into railways, roads and ports. Besides the articles analyses the current situation of the main water transport hubs in the Azov and Black Sea Region and the prospects for their development, investigates the possibility of the integration of the southern regions into the system of cross-border transport corridors. The author emphasizes that the increasing workload on the infrastructure due to the growing demand for cargo transportation requires a comprehensive modernization of sea ports and access infrastructure including railway and road network. It is noted that the absence of developed logistics system of terminal and distribution centers of southern regions both in the mainland of Russia and in the Crimea, growth of the load on railway and car roads, their wear out will lead to the decrease in the safety of cargo and passenger traffic and it can negatively affect the regional economic growth.
Key words: infrastructure, investment, transport projects, southern regions, cargo traffic, Crimean Bridge, ports, Azov and Black Sea Region.
