Abstract.
In the article types of creative spaces of city agglomerations are analyzed. The first type are creative projects of the organization of urban spaces on the basis of the existing objects and infrastructure. These are private projects most often created on the initiative of individual enterprises, private organizations using their own money or private investments. The second type are large scale creative projects of the organization of the urban space, the creation of which is practically impossible without the financial, administrative and informational support from the government. Different approaches to the organization of creative spaces of urban agglomerations, according to the terms of realization, the extent of the territory, content, types, character and spheres of the activity are studied. All the types of creative spaces of the urban area directed on the development of the same target, on the creation of a creative city are revealed. The peculiarities and problems of the organization of creative spaces in Saint Petersburg are studied. One of the problems on the way of the formation of the creative city is a high degree of the conservatism in the perception of the art, design and architecture typical both of Saint Petersburg and Russia as a whole. The measures for the development in Saint Petersburg of creative spaces, in particular and the development of the strategy of the “creative capital” are suggested.
