Abstract.
The article describes the main directions of simulation in project management. The analysis of the problems in project management at an enterprise of machinery construction industry was made. The authors identify the main problem in the project management of enterprises as the lack of methodology in the formation and management of a project portfolio. The existing mathematical model of the composition of a portfolio of projects is analyzed and their applicability for the solution of problems of the machinery construction industry is assessed. The analysis of models conducted in eight projects by ranking them on the basis of three approaches: mathematical and economic method, expert and graphic method is made. The authors have proposed criteria and indicators allowing choosing an efficient portfolio of projects that will contribute in the best way to the achievement of the strategic goals of an organization. The problem of portfolio formation for the earlier eight projects based on the proposed mathematical model is solved. A mathematical model of the creation of an efficient portfolio of projects will provide the link between strategic and project management, will ensure that resources are allocated only to projects that encourage the enterprise to achieve strategic goals with a minimal risk.

Key words: investments, investment project, machine construction industry, project management, risks, high-quality approach, quantitative approach, effective portfolio of projects, mathematical model.
