Abstract.
The article emphasizes the importance of a systemic approach to planning longterm socio-economic development of the country and its regions, the need for analysis of contemporary natural and anthropogenic processes as the basis of profound scientific rethinking of the environmental orientation of social production and optimization of dynamic economic development, the importance of identifying ways and means of ensuring a long-term sustainable development. The author believes that the formation and implementation of regional and district strategies of socio-economic development, and regional and municipal environmental policy should be linked because the health, social and environmental well-being of the population are inseparably related. The basic principle of ensuring environmental security in the Southern macro-region is the priority of environmental problems in the implementation of economic measures, which should provide both economic and environmental benefits. This will require the implementation of a complex of legislative and institutional measures that increase energy efficiency and development of renewable energy sources, implementation of economic activities to encourage the reduction of emissions, discharges, education and waste management.
