Abstract.

The article explores the issues of heterogeneity of economic development of the subjects of the southern Federal district and the influence of this process on the basic indicators of pollution which determine the quality of the natural environment. The modern state of atmospheric air, wastewater discharge by economic entities, generation of waste of production and consumption. The causes and sources of their formation, the necessity of transformation of Federal districts in the territorial centers of economic regulation with the purpose of sustainable development of the regions.
