Abstract.
In the article the American experience of the management of problematic territories within territorial megaprojects of the social type in particular of the Appalachian Regional Commission. The functioning of such type of authority can be a model for the management of similar processes in the South of Russia, in depressive regions in particular. It is important to point out the fact that within targets not only economic but also important social goals are set, for instance, poverty elimination, creation of working places, population training.
