Abstract.

The article describes the opportunities for an effective use of the program-oriented management approach to sustainable development in the region. Groups of the regional target programs to prioritize sustainable development of the region (for example, the Volgograd region) are given. Criteria and methodology assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of regional programs are distinguished.
