 Abstract. The article is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the birth of Oleg Vasilievich Inshakov, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Rector and President of Volgograd State University (VolSU), who made a decisive contribution to the formation of VolSU as a classical university and a strategic center of science, education, culture and advanced technologies in the Volgograd region and the Southern Federal District. Through the prism of scientific achievements of Oleg Inshakov, his followers and other representatives of the scientific school “Patterns of Evolution, Ways of Transformation and Strategic Modernization of Economic Systems” created by him, key fundamental and applied interdisciplinary projects are characterized. The implementation of these projects gave a significant impetus to the development of the regional economic research, aimed at providing the competitive, sustainable and secure development of the economy in the Volgograd region and the South of Russia.
